Today Save EMA has won our A Deals A Deal campaign and forced the Government to pay EMA to those who are currently recieving £30 a week in EMA next year. You can see James Mills from Save EMA respond straight after the decision below to the BBC.
However, although we have won this battle, our war to fully Save EMA continues!
Especially, as the Government are cutting EMA by 60% instead of 90% and the Government are giving 77p to the most poorest EMA recipeints at the expense of the majority of their classmates. So if you start a course next year you wouldnt get the replacement of EMA (Discretionary Learner Support Fund) whereas you would have got EMA if you came from say a family whose household income is below £31,000 a year.
But tonight we can celebrate but tomorrow the fight continues!!

Can someone tell me please…Is the bursary only for travel and food or will it include the buying of books, equipment and just general living expenses? And am I getting this correctly…EMA is to be retained in it’s current form, for those who are already getting it for their second years?
@Jackie
I think EMA is only for those who have already started their courses, and are finishing them next year, so basically if you get it now you will get it next year but if you’re making the transition from High school to 6th form/college you won’t get it
