The vote is over and the government won with 317 MPs voting to scrap EMA against 258 MPs from the Labour party, Green party, SDLP DUP, SNP and Plaid Cymru… …oh and two Lib Dems.
Lib Dem MP Simon Hughes who pledge at our meeting exactly a week before that he would do all he could on EMA and said he would vote with any motion that said it would “rethink” scrapping EMA, broke that promise and voted with the government. We at Save EMA think that’s disgraceful as he has not only betrayed everyone at our meeting only a week ago and the almost 4,000 teenagers in Southwark, where his constituency of Bermondsey is in London, but also the hundreds of thousands of teenagers on EMA in the country!
